In this competitive world, where every year so many new career opportunities are emerging and others becoming obsolete, it is important to understand our children’s capabilities to help them in goal setting and keep them focused and motivated for long run. Career counselling gives them the lead time to develop their potential and saves both time and money. Most importantly it will assist the parent’s aspiration to be aligned with that of the child’s abilities, thereby in a long run attaining a common goal and making the family happy.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN SESSIONS

Session 1:Understand the family as a whole. We understand that parents know their child better and have some aspirations which have to be addressed. We try to understand your story.

Session 2: This session is exclusively with the child to enable the counsellor to penetrate the mind and heart of the child. This is the perfect stage to begin taking a planned approach towards their career. Thus, creating awareness of divergent career options at this stage gives them enough time to explore their interests and improve their abilities.

Session 3: Psychometric tests are given to students to explore their personality, multiple intelligence, study skills and learning style.

Session 4: This is the stage at which parents are guided about the about the strength and potential of their children through elaborate discussions. They are also made aware of areas which need attention. Career development is not a onetime process, but requires long term hand holding. Parents are guided towards the path of career development. Once the child has clarity at this stage he /she is motivated to work towards the goals going forward.

Freqently Asked Questions

Are the students of classes 7th and 8th too young for taking career guidance?

Students in Classes 7th and 8th are at the right stage to begin taking a planned approach towards their career. Once they are exposed to the guidance process their attitudes and beliefs about career begins to form. Thus, creating awareness of careers at this stage gives one enough time to explore their interests and work towards their abilities.

Will students of classes 7th and 8th be able to decide about their future?

This is the exploratory stage where we help children to know themselves better and about the world of careers. This helps them set goals for themselves and they are then motivated to work towards their future

My child is not interested in studies, how can counselling be helpful for him?

Children who are not interested in studies or show behavioural problems indicate symptoms of some deeper concerns. Since they do not have a purpose or goal they are not motivated to study or get indulged in unhealthy behaviours. Career counselling helps in understanding which type of learner a child is; weather he has the required study skills or not and then is guided accordingly towards goal setting.

Are parents also involved in the counselling process?

We believe that parents play an integral role in their child's career decision-making and future, especially at this young age. Thus, we encourage parents to be involved in the process, and take inputs from them during the counselling sessions to gain a better understanding of the child.

What preparations are required to be done for psychometric tests?

There is no requirement of any preparation for the tests. The child must be fresh and relaxed for the tests.

Why should I get the counselling done in 7/8 class when again it has to be carried out in Class 9/10

This is the stage in which most children start getting distracted and peer group becomes their priority. Researchers have found that most of the behavioural problems can be resolved with children who have goals. Through career counselling an early start in the right direction, helps them in finding their goals and thus keep them focused and motivated. This paves way towards further exploration which is done in class 10 where they can get clarity about their aptitude, interest, personality and career values which can only be done once the child has attained the necessary skills, getting knowledge of different subjects to a required level. Counselling charges will also be less as compared to someone who will get it done in Class 10.

Passing class 9th and 10th is a significant educational milestone. It is here where students start thinking about career preferences on a serious note. The decision they make here paves the way, in most cases, for the rest of their career in life. There are so many choices that an individual has to make at this stage like the stream and subjects selection and the career plan which becomes daunting for them. This is the perfect time to help them plan their future so that they are motivated to work towards their goals.

Often, there is difference of opinion between parents and the child on selecting a career path. Parents claim they know their child and understand what is best for them. Sometimes they push their children to select a career path of their choice. While on the other hand, children feel their interest is not being considered, thus feel suffocated. In such events a career counsellor who is an expert and understands human behaviour is able to balance the opinion of both the sides and strive to achieve a common ground which is in the best interest of the student’s career.

Even if the child is clear about his career path, it is important to understand and assess if they have the right set of aptitude and skills to pursue the career. The choice of stream, and related subjects should be based on a career path and an in-depth understanding of self, knowing one’s capabilities, and strengths and weaknesses is very important. We help the students strategize their career and provide a futuristic perspective on their career path.

What to expect in sessions

Sessions 1: Initiation Career counselling is only successful if parents, child and the counsellor work as a team where we define our goals together. The first session is focused towards comprehending the aspirations and goals of the child, expectations of parents which may be stream selection, removal of confusion regarding careers, career knowledge etc. Only Computer-generated report cannot work. You need to be understood, your aspirations, and your values are important for us. This requires working one-to-one to really understand and get clarity. So your time will also be required for fruitful career counselling.

Session 2: Exploration Career Counselling is meant to provide pedestal to minimise inhibition and confusions so that the environment for a candid sharing can be initiated. This becomes the stepping stone for smooth revelation of the career dreams of the child. This Session is to help the student to self analyse and understand the skills and uniqueness within.

Session 3 & 4: Psychometric Test Psychometric tests are scientific assessment tools which analyse a person's capabilities, aptitudes, personality, interests etc. Thus they give an insight into choosing the best fit career paths from a wide range of choices suited to their abilities and strengths. Each Career requires distinct skills to harvest success in long run.

We at Career Boost understand the individual differences in people, so the tests are undertaken at your own convenience, suitable to both of us. It generally takes 3 to 3½ hrs depending on the speed of the student. It is advised to take them in 2 to 3 sessions. 7 tests are to be undertaken by the candidate which are Aptitude, Interest, Personality, Multiple Intelligence, Career Values, Study Skills and learning Styles.

Here in Career Boost, we have introduced two more tests for the child i.e. Study Skills and Learning Style. These tests help in bridging the gap between the potential of the child and achievements in academic. Thus a 360 degree analysis of a child is done for better prospects through standardized psychometric tests which are tested for validity and reliability.

Session 5: Analysing Career Options & Career ResearchIn this session, the results of each test are discussed with the Child and they are shown new perspectives and opportunities in career planning. They are also guided towards their skills, opportunities and strength and the areas of improvement. Also they are encouraged to bring about the required changes in them to reach the desired goals. If required they may be asked to do further research on their aspired career clusters to evaluate all their career options.

Session 6: Career DecisionIt is only through the correct Psychometric analysis that we can truly figure out the different dimensions of the child undergoing Career Counselling. It is a tedious manual process (so as to rule out any ambiguity, after all it is the future of a Child) and not computer generated process. So, it takes 3 to 4 days to prepare the report taking into consideration the factors which came out in counselling and then to come up with the best Career Options for the child.

Subsequently, a 30 Pages Test Report is prepared, based on all the sessions and then discussed in details with the parents, who are made aware of the full findings of each parameter of the Child and are recommended with 4 best Career Options.
